Trompe-l’oeil architectural murals

1995 to 2006

Quebec, 1992
at the top of the three floors of scaffolding in the performance hall, I am painting the vault with a stormy sky, symbolizing the dramatic aspect of the show.

This fresco depicts the facade of a Gothic church. It was executed using trompe-l'oeil, a technique of light and shadow that gives the impression of three dimensions.

Here, the painters have had fun integrating visual commentaries as has been the case in painting throughout history. A saint is replaced by a businessman in a tie, a chicken lies on the ground, symbolizing waste, a Mickey Mouse tries to catch a banknote and we find a Charlie.

As a thank you to our sponsor Laurentide painting, we made a trompe-l'oeil of the opened paint pots and the equipment (rags, brushes, level) leaning against the wall on one of the facades.

This facade represents the Gardens of Eden.

As in any good tale, the scene depicts the proud and legendary knight on the step of a staircase that will lead him to the princess waiting to be rescued.

In a surrealist and symbolic style, here is an overall view of the pillar representing a dreamlike vision of the tale, mixing knight, princess, cosmos, Merlin and secret doors.

Training of the team of artists who participated in the frescoes. The learning consisted, among other things, in shading the colors, the play of shadow and light to create a successful trompe-l'oeil.

The creative impulse, an imposed theme, represents a young man who climbs to the top of a pile of books and film reels to reach the moon and try to catch it.

The Swimmer
On this studio floor a kidney-shaped swimming pool is painted on the ground. A female figure swims underwater.
